Two Turkish soldiers died and three others were wounded when Syrian government forces opened fire in Syria’s Idlib region, the Turkish Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

In a statement the ministry said Turkish forces responded with fire power to the government forces.

The deadly clash came hours after a meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, who later announced a ceasefire in Idlib.

More than 50 Turkish soldiers have been killed along with rebels in the recently intensifying conflict.
