İstanbul’s new mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu officially declared his financial assets to the public two days after his election in a landslide victory over the ruling party’s candidate.

According to a disclosure document published by the Turkish media, İmamoğlu holds a 20 percent share in his family’s construction company worth TL 1.4 billion ($242 million) and in excess of 25,000 square meters of real estate.

The document also includes the assets of his father, Hasan İmamoğlu, and his wife, Dilek İmamoğlu.

Public disclosure of assets is a tradition in Turkish politics for politicians who say they value transparency. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan also from time to time declares his assets to the public.

İmamoğlu was mayor of İstanbul’s Beylikdüzü district from 2014 to 2019.
