The owners of the only restaurant currently operating at İstanbul’s new airport are business partners of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s children, according to a report on the T24 news website.

The situation came to light after a Twitter user complained about the restaurant, posting the receipt for his meal, which cost TL100 ($17), and stating that it was too expensive for the poor service, with the meal served on plastic plates.

The restaurant, named Çay Saati (Tea Hour), at the moment the only functioning restaurant in the new airport, is owned by Mustafa Esenkal and Ali Bahadır Yeşil, who are business partners of Bilal Erdoğan and Sümeyye Erdoğan in another restaurant.

Erdoğan children have the majority share of that restaurant, approximately TL1 million ($178,000).

İstanbul’s new airport drew much criticism from the opposition over corruption allegations lodged during its construction.
