İbrahim Halil Oruç, a 16-year-old who recently died as a result of a work-related accident in the southeastern Turkish province of Diyarbakır, had to work because his father was removed from his post by a government decree in the aftermath of a failed coup attempt in Turkey in July 2016, the Arti Gerçek news website reported on Tuesday.

Oruç was critically injured when an oil stove in his workplace in Diyarbakır caught fire and exploded. He had been forced to quit school due to financial problems his family began to experience after the father was fired from his job at the Diyarbakır Municipality.

More than 150,000 people were removed from state jobs while in excess of 50,000 others were jailed, and some 600,000 people have been investigated on allegations of terrorism since the coup attempt in Turkey under the pretext of an anti-coup fight.

Oruç lost his life on Jan. 26 at a hospital where he had been receiving treatment for the injuries suffered in the explosion.

Tragedies caused by the government’s crackdown on regular citizens due to the coup attempt are frequent in Turkey and make their way into the reports of the human rights organizations.
