Police seize antique Torah valued at $2.5 million in Turkey’s west

Turkish police have seized an antique gilded Torah that is reportedly worth $2.5 million in the western province of Bursa, Sputnik Turkish service reported on Tuesday.

After receiving a tip about a vehicle used for artifact smuggling, the police set up a checkpoint on the highway between the western provinces of İzmir and Bursa, halted the vehicle and seized the antique Torah.

A police officer, a village headman and a contractor were detained during the operation on charges of antiques smuggling.
