Several injured as CHP election office attacked in Konya

The photos were posted on Twitter by the CHP's official account.

Several members of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) were injured when a group of unknown assailants attacked the party’s election office in the central province of Konya, the Diken news website reported on Wednesday.

The incident took place in the late hours of Tuesday.

CHP Deputy Chairman Aykut Erdoğdu tweeted that a large group of assailants attacked the election coordination center in Konya, leading to the injury of several young party members.

He said the injured youths are not in critical condition.

“We would never think this attack belongs to Konya, which is a province of tolerance. Those who perpetrated this attack are barbaric people who are humiliating Konya,” Erdoğdu said.

Officials from the CHP Konya provincial branch claimed that the attackers were from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

Turkey will hold early presidential and general elections on June 24, and the political parties began campaigning on April 28.

Other opposition parties have also been subjected to attacks during the campaign period.
