Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, chairman of the main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP), was re-elected leader of the party on Saturday with 790 votes at the CHP’s 36th general congress.

The other contender for the post, Yalova deputy Muharrem İnce, garnered 447 votes.

Ince lost the leadership race against Kılıçdaroğlu, who has run the CHP since 2010, receiving 415 votes to Kılıçdaroğlu’s 740 at the party’s 2014 congress.

Former Istanbul Bar Association chairman Ümit Kocasakal and Ömer Faruk Eminağaoğlu, the former head of the Judges and Prosecutors Association (YARSAV), had also announced their candidacies for party chairmanship, but they were unable to collect the required number of signatures.

The CHP received 25.31 percent of the vote and 133 seats in Parliament in the Nov. 1, 2015 general elections.
