Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on Tuesday reacted to the US’s potential recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, saying Turkey may end diplomatic relations with Israel if that comes to pass, the state-run Anadolu new agency reported.

“Jerusalem is the red line of Muslims. If such a step is taken, this may result in ending our diplomatic relations with Israel,” Erdoğan said during a Justice and Development Party (AKP) group meeting in Parliament.

“If you take this kind of step, we will convene an emergency Organisation of Islamic Cooperation summit in Istanbul,” Erdoğan added.

American media recently reported that President Donald Trump is considering relocating the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem and the formal recognition of the city as Israel’s capital.
