EU spokesperson Maja Kocijancic has said the union is concerned about what is going on in Myanmar’s Rakhine state and called for moderation, CNN Türk reported on Tuesday.

Underlining that they are closely following incidents in the region, Kocijancic said they made some recommendations to improve the situation in Myanmar in a message issued on Aug. 25.

More than 3,000 Rohingya Muslims have arrived in Bangladesh from Myanmar in the past three days, UN refugee agency UNHCR said on Monday.

Hundreds have died in clashes between Burmese authorities and Rohingya insurgents, leading thousands of Rohingya Muslims to flee to Bangladesh due to tensions between Buddhists and Muslims ongoing since 2012.

National leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who is a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has been criticized for not raising her voice against the persecution of the Muslim minority.
