Turkish customs units have seized 122,685 kilograms of cocaine worth TL 24.5 million from a Liberian-flagged dry cargo vessel at the Port of Mersin, the Doğan news agency reported on Monday.
Customs teams put the container allegedly carrying bananas from Ecuador through an X-ray scanner and emptied the container when a density difference was discovered in the upper part of the container. Drug-sniffing dogs detected 102 packages of cocaine hidden in the roof of the container.
Seven suspects were detained in Mersin on charges of smuggling cocaine.
