Justice minister says prime coup suspect might have been executed

Turkey’s Justice Minister Bekir Bozdağ has said Adil Öksüz, one of the prime suspects in a failed coup attempt in Turkey on July 15, 2016, might have been executed to be prevented from talking, the Birgün daily reported on Monday.

According to the report, Bozdağ argued that there was no concrete information as to his whereabouts but that it was unlikely for Öksüz to be at large in Turkey.

“Öksüz might be kept hidden somewhere in Turkey by someone, or he might have been abducted abroad. Or he might have been executed so that he wouldn’t talk. We currently have no definitive information to enable us to decide which one of these possibilities is correct,” said Bozdağ.

Öksüz was reported to have been caught while trying to escape from Akıncı Air Base in Ankara on the morning of July 16, 2016, but he was released a short while later by a court in Sincan. He has been at large since then.
