[VIDEO] Germany sure Erdoğan’s controversial bodyguards will not accompany him during G20

German Foreign Ministry spokesperson Martin Schafer has said the German government is sure that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan will not bring his bodyguards who were involved in an attack on protestors in Washington, D.C., in May to a G20 summit to be held in Hamburg on July 7-8, Deutsche Welle has reported.

On May 16, members of President Erdoğan’s security detail engaged in a violent altercation with a group of protesters outside the residence of the Turkish ambassador in Washington while Erdoğan was paying an official visit to the country. At least 11 protesters were injured.

Hamburg Police Chief Ralf Martin Meyer has also said the German police will take all measures including detention in the event Erdoğan’s bodyguards are engaged in a fight in Hamburg during the G20 summit, according to the Bild daily.

Meyer said the German police will not allow Erdoğan’s protestors to resort to violence as they did in Washington.

A total of 20,000 police officers are expected to maintain security in the city with the support of Dutch and Austrian police during the G-20 summit.

Twenty-five demonstrations are expected to take place in the city protesting the G-20 leaders.
