[UPDATE] Leftist actor Atay released after brief detention in Muğla

Turkish actor Barış Atay, who was detained by gendarmes in the Dalyan district of Muğla on Wednesday night, was released on Thursday after testifying to a prosecutor.

The actor did not previously attend a hearing in an ongoing case, after which he was ordered to be detained.

Atay, who is also a leftist activist, is known for his critical stance against the Turkish government and President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

In November 2013, Atay was detained in İstanbul on accusations of links to the socialist hacker group RedHack and was taken to Ankara for questioning along with 13 other suspects. Three days later he was released upon a ruling from an Ankara court.
