1,068 PKK militants killed in last 9 months, Turkish interior minister says

Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu visited the Malazgirt Gendarmerie Command in eastern Muş province along with its governor and other heads of security institutions on Saturday.

Turkey’s Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu said on Saturday that a total of 1,068 militants from the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) had been killed in operations over the last nine months.

Speaking during a press conference at the Malazgirt Gendarmerie Command in eastern Muş province along with the governor and other heads of security institutions, Soylu said: “A total of 1,068 were killed, 27 were wounded, 369 were captured and 289 surrendered. These are the numbers of the last nine months,” Turkish media reported.

Underlining that Turkey is going through a significant period in the fight against terrorism, Soylu said: “A total of 360 [terror] incidents were prevented in the last nine months.”

More than 40,000 people are believed to have died in Turkey’s decades-long struggle against the PKK.
