Pro-Erdoğan journalist threatens TV station for raising allegations of fraud in referendum

Cem Küçük

Cem Küçük, a staunchly pro-government journalist known for his attacks on government critics on social media, has said FOX TV is committing a crime with its coverage of referendum results during which commentators raised allegations of voter fraud.

Citizens of Turkey cast their votes on Sunday in a historic referendum on whether to switch the system of governance to an executive presidency amid reports of alleged voter fraud across the country.

The Supreme Election Council (YSK) said mid-Sunday that ballots without authenticating stamps would be considered valid unless proven to have been brought from outside the polling station.

“Commentators are committing a crime that targets the constitutional order. … They will pay the price. … Right now, the Istanbul Prosecutor’s Office is recording the broadcast,” Küçük tweeted late on Sunday.

’Yes’ has won, but be ready for a fight,” he continued.

The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) claimed that there are 2.5 million “problematic” votes, vowing to contest the results.

The state-run Anadolu news agency said 99.9 percent of the votes have been counted, leading to a “yes” win with a 51.23 percent majority.
