Report: Police briefly detain businessman for urging ‘no’ vote in referendum

Police briefly detained a shopkeeper in Bursa on Sunday after an “informant citizen” reported that he urged people to vote ‘”no” in a referendum on constitutional amendments that will officially bring an executive presidential system to Turkey in early April.

According to the Haber Sol news portal, Haydar Atabek, a shopkeeper in Bursa’s Yıldırım district, argued with a customer over the referendum on Sunday morning. Police detained Atabek at his shop and took him to the police station after the customer submitted a complaint against him claiming that Atabek had urged people to vote against the referendum.

After testifying to the Bursa 2nd Penal Court of Peace, Atabek was released late on Sunday.
