The Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKEK) delivered Turkey’s first domestically produced modular National Infantry Rifle (MPT-76) at a ceremony in Kırıkkale province on Wednesday.

Speaking at the ceremony Defense Minister Fikri Işık thanked all who worked on the development of the MPT-76 rifle.

Işık underlined that 15 years ago 80 percent of Turkey’s defense industry was dependent on foreign sources but said that today the ratio had fallen to 40 percent.

“Our aim to decrease it to below 20 percent,” added Işık.

Minister Isik and Land Forces Commander Gen. Salih Zeki Çolak test-fired the MPT-76 during the delivery ceremony in Kırıkkale.

An MPT-76 was presented to Gen. Çolak by Undersecretary for the Defense Industry İsmail Demir.
