In addition to the brief closure of İstanbul Atatürk Airport runways on Friday night, life across İstanbul has been disrupted by the ongoing heavy snowfall in the city.

Drivers were stranded on one of İstanbul’s main highways, the TEM, as maritime traffic came to a standstill as well.

The TEM highway was blocked following an accident involving two tractor-trailers.

Turkish Airlines has cancelled a total of 500 flights scheduled for Jan. 6 and 7.
