The main opposition Republican People’s Party (CHP) has demanded a parliamentary inquiry into security weaknesses that have allowed the occurrence of terrorist attacks in Turkey since the general elections of June 7, 2015.

Speaking to journalists in Ankara at a press conference on Monday, CHP İstanbul deputy Sezgin Tanrıkulu said CHP deputies signed a proposal to launch a parliamentary inquiry to investigate security weaknesses in the face of terrorist attacks in Turkey.

Underlining that Turkey has been a bigger target of terror groups since June 7, 2015, Tanrıkulu added that the those who are responsible for terrorist attacks and those who were negligent in preventing such attacks from happening must be held to account.

“Four hundred twenty-three people have lost their lives in terrorist attacks since the June 7, 2015 elections, leaving hundreds injured. Despite all precautions taken, the attack that took place in the heart of İstanbul was not prevented,” he said.

Thirty-nine people died and 69 were wounded in a terrorist attack by the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) at a nightclub in İstanbul on Sunday.
