Prime minister says EP humiliated itself with vote on Turkey

Joining the ranks of many senior-level Turkish politicians who slammed the European Parliament’s vote to freeze EU accession talks with Turkey, Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım said on Saturday that with that decision, the EP humiliated itself while stating that their decision means nothing to Turkey.

“The EP’s decision has no value whatsoever for us,” Yıldırım said in İstanbul, adding that the government only takes the decision of the people of Turkey into account, although Turkey is a candidate for membership in the European Union.

Arguing that Europeans are moving away from objectivity when it comes to Turkey, Yıldırım said that the EU should decide whether it wants to cooperate with Turkey or  terrorist organizations. He further claimed that the EP’s vote will not be taken into consideration at the summit of the European leaders.
