Pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) Co-chairperson Selahattin Demirtaş is being kept in solitary confinement in Edirne Prison for psychological torture, Aysel Tuğluk, a lawyer representing the politician, said on Tuesday.
In a series of messages from his Twitter account on Sunday, Tuğluk said: “My client is being kept in an isolated prison cell for psychological torture, and all of his books, clothes were seized upon arrival.”
Turkish courts on Friday arrested nine HDP deputies including the party’s co-chairs, who were detained in the early hours of Friday following police raids on their homes. Upon the ruling for his arrest, Demirtaş was taken to Edirne Prison in northwestern Turkey on the same day. (Turkey Purge)
