A Turkish deputy prime minister has voiced concern that an operation against Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorists in the province of Mosul in neighboring Iraq may trigger a new refugee flow to Turkey.

“We have to be ready for a new wave of refugees as a result of the operation against ISIL in Mosul,” said Deputy Prime Minister Veysi Kaynak during a visit to the southern province of Kahramanmaraş on Sunday.

Kaynak also said the Disaster and Emergency Management Agency (AFAD) has been making preparations for the possible arrival of new refugees.

Turkey is home to over 2.5 million Syrian refugees.
