According to Turkey’s Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekçi, the failed coup of July 15 was much more than a coup, claiming that it was an attempt to occupy Turkey as the last scene of a play that has been in the making for years.
Speaking in Denizli province on Saturday, Zeybekçi argued that the putschists aimed to occupy and divide the Republic of Turkey. “Their purpose was to divide Turkey and make two ‘istans’ out of it,” probably in reference to İstanbul. According to Zeybekçi, the aim was to divide Turkey to create a “coup of states” in order to realize the map of Anatolia that was drawn up a century ago. Despite his arguments, Zeybekçi did not mention who he considers to be the enemy.
Zeybekçi also added that he is not able to reveal everything he knows. Referring to anonymous enemies, he said that behind closed doors they tell them what they know.
