TSK says FSA took control of 6 more villages in Syria

A statement released by the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK) on Sunday said the Free Syrian Army has recaptured six more villages from the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in Syria as part of an operation launched by Turkey and a US-led coalition in late August.

Turkey sent tanks across the border to help Syrian rebels drive ISIL from the border city of Jarabulus on Aug. 25 in a dramatic escalation of its involvement in the Syrian civil war.

The operation, called Euphrates Shield, is also aimed at pushing back US-allied Kurdish forces. The fighting pits a NATO ally against a US-backed proxy that is the most effective ground force battling ISIL in Syria.

FSA fighters last week took Jarabulus with Turkish support.

In its statement on the 12th day of the operation, the TSK said 83 targets in Syria have been hit by means of 293 strikes.

It also said 11 mines and 325 explosive devices in the area have been defused thus far.
