A total of 29 diplomats and public servants working at the Ministry of European Union Affairs and Ministry of Environment and Urbanization were detained on Aug. 25 as part of an investigation into the Gülen movement, which the government accuses of being behind a July 15 coup attempt.
According to the Haber Türk daily, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office issued detention warrants for 29 diplomats and pubic officials who are suspected of links to the Gülen movement.
Upon the issuance of the warrant, a major operation was conducted by police teams from the Ankara Anti-smuggling and Organized Crime Directorate later the same day, with almost 500 police officers raiding numerous locations, including the aforementioned ministries. (Turkey Purge)
